Nobel Peace Prize 1964

“I HAVE A DREAM THAT ONE DAY THIS NATION WILL RISE UP AND LIVE OUT THE TRUE MEANING OF ITS CREED”.
“WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT ,THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL”
Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968).In 1954, Martin Luther King became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race, King was, by this time, a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the leading organization of its kind in the nation. In 1957 he was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization formed to provide new leadership for the now burgeoning civil rights movement. The ideals for this organization he took from Christianity; its operational techniques from Gandhi.
In 1964, at the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.
On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated.

  1. I think that Marthin Luther is a formidable person because he searced the liberty of many black men that they were enslaved of power full men. He was awarded the Nobel peace prize because he fought for liberty. A lot of white people have considered him bad. These people have decided to kill him but in my opinion he will be always a very important person

  4. Martin Luther King was a political of the United States and the main supporter of not violent resistance to apartheid. He died for supporting on ideal ''counter-cuttent''. I think that, unfortunately, today in our society a man who fought for a specific objective is more and more forgotten.

  5. Martin Luther King Jr. was an united states' politician. He was the most young nobel prize for peace. he set free a lot of black people even if some white people weren't in accordance with him and his thought. I think he is and will always be a big man as he was a pacifist man who theorized an unviolent fight.

  6. Another of my heroes... I wrote something about him during the italian test when I was at middle school. He's a person who changed the lives of many blacks with his non-violent marches. Martin Luther King is also a great example of christianity, he put into practice the Christian message of love, brotherhood and respect. Sadly someone didn't like this and as happens to few people who are fighting for the right things he was killed but his ideas of tolerance, brotherhood and love remained until today and we can still read "I HAVE A DREAM...". This was a moving speech, first time I read it made me think hard. I thought of how could a black person feel when a white man (a stupid white man) humiliates him saying "Nigger" or other offenses (and/or with physical injuries) just because his skin is black. It reminds me many songs of the rapper Tupac Shakur (the person in my personal image)... He sang about the discrimination of his people and in the end of one of his songs (that has a title that is very expressive: "White Man'z World") put a part of the speech of Martin Luther King during a march. I admire him deeply as he was able to fight by following the precepts of Gandhi himself... God take care of your soul... Martin...

  8. Martin Luther has fought in the united states to defend the rights of all those people that had the dark skin. These were people that didn't succeed in living with the other people because they were considered "different." He tried to demolish this wall of difference and partly he/she succeeded you; for this reason it won the prize nobel for the peace in 1964. But its thought appeased him with its death. You/he/she was killed while it was being to the balcony of his/her motel. There are no words to describe this so cruel action; it didn't deserve him this because thanks to him a lot of things were changed.
