International Gothic

International Gothic is one of those expressions relating to the late period of the gothic art involving different countries in Europe united by the same style.
In painting it is famous the Wilton dyptych (1395-9) typical for the representation of religious and secular details at the royal courts, the good taste for the beauty of the well-educated classes. This new tendency is also expressed in the use of refined objects such as jewel caskets, tapestries from the Flanders and cards.
In architecture Gothic perpendicular is what we find in England from the second half of the XIV century with the building of the highest towers and roofs never seen in order to wonder public and to reach the hights of divinity.
Westminster Hall in London, King's College Chapel, in Cambridge, HenryVII's Lady Chapel at Westminster Abbey in London, Bath Abbey and Winchester Cathedral nave are just an example of such marvellous views.
The new style involved not only the religious but also the secular works as you can se in Westminster Hall

  4. The Gothic architecture is surely a great revolution in architecture that with its combination of new elements still nowadays we can acknowledge its importance. In my opinion the Gothic architects are successful in their purposes because their buildings have a unique atmosphere in which we can feel what medieval people felt.

  5. The gothic architecture is a kind of architecture very particular, because the forms went against the tradictional forms, above all the build of the churchs.
The gotic is present in England and France but we have a gothic art in Italy too.For example the Milan cathedral or San francesco cathedral in Assisi.
A lot of churchs however were fall down because the architects in this medieval period haven't a good study of proportion and building material.I like gothic style for the perpendicular sistem applicated in the building who get a majestic impression.

The principal objective of gothic was amaze. Its importance was the change against the tradictional forms. The shape of gothic building was slim and hight against the building of the past.

  8. I do not really like the gothic National, I prefer the international Gothic style,
which developed in Europe in the late 14th century, because it emphasizes the taste
for a detailed description of the details and uses color more vivid.
It is also designed to exaggerate certain features of Gothic architecture,
for example in architecture tends to exacerbate the momentum of the vaults
and the structural meaning of arches and ribs, in painting instead taken to the extreme
the decorative use of line contour, while the color becomes antinaturalistic.

  9. The Gothic architecture is a majestic style of art.I think it's important to understand that the Middle Ages weren't a darknes's period only.In fact the Gothic was a new art form with a lot of new elements and innovations respect the previous styles. It was a new way to read the relation between people and religion, between people and God. And the particular atmosphere that we fell inside a Gothic cathedral is unique and it makes you feel different sensations.

  10. I think that the Gothic architecture is one of the more amazing forms of art ever existed.
This artistic kind strikes me especially for the greats stained-glass windows and for the enormous dimensions of the buildings, generally churches.
This style was born in France in the mid of twelfth century to spread subsequently in the rest of Europe. Among the more important Gothic churches of Europe we remember especially the cathedral of Paris “Notre Dame” and the basilica of S. Francesco in Assisi.

  11. The gothic style is my favourite because is misterious. It gives me a feeling of fear but at the same time fascinates me, its darkness covers everything and it doesn't allow the light to enter into the church...
This period is part of medieval period, which is a source of beliefs in magic and the gothic is in the right time...:-)

  12. Gothic architecture is recognized primarily for vertical, hit me just this aspect of the Gothic as it seems to challenge the sky and seen that I like the feeling of flying, or touching the sky with a finger. This aspect fascinates me. The study with pleasure and it was great being able to study English.

The gothic is an artistic current born around to half of XII century and pursues until to XIV century. At the beginning this art form is manifested in France ,especially in ILE-DE-FRANCE, a region around Paris, but then it is diffused in all North Central Europe. It is showed in different ways depending of countries in that is developed. Also it entries in scene for the first time the figure of cathedral, where resides Episcopal seat. Between different elements, three of these characterize gothic cathedrals :great and polychrome stained glass, verticality of proportion and fan vaults. First had to guarantee intense illumination of church, in allegiance to theological conviction what God is light, while the verticalism represented the grip relation between churchgoer and light, churchgoer and God. I think the gothic exalts the God’s figure. Also the light of God rends darkness of earthly world and subject raises steeply towards to Creator. I like the gothic, especially the architecture because it makes you feel great emotions and you can understand profound religiosity of that period. We live in a society where religion wasn’t follow with true spirit of faith.

  14. In my opinion the gothic architecture is one of the most important style of architecture. This style has been diffuses in the medieval period: many cathedral, churches, castles and palaces are built in this way. The gothic have a strange power: this style transmits you an extraordinary feeling that enter inside you and catch up your heart. For example when you enter in a gothic cathedral you perfectly fell the old atmosphere full of mystery. For this reason I must admit that the gothics artist and architects manage to transmit all what they wanted to express.
