Rapa Nui island has always been subject of tales and legends in the history. Since old ages, Moais, the enormous monuments which surround the island, have been interesting for visitors from all the world. Its particular name is because of the day the settlers discovered it; they called it Easter Island in Easter Day 1722. Population didn't survive the danger of a massive death, being far away from a civilized centre - Easter Island is one of the world's most standing-alone places. Rapa Nui lapsed because of it. They weren't able to find out a way to survive, and the deterioration make them go out.

  1. In 2005 ,in my travel in Norwy,I was lucky enough to visit the Kon-Tiki's museum, where is preserved the Kon-Tiki:the raft built by Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian explorer who showed that the inhabitants of Easter Island had been in contact with the people of Polynesia.
In this museum there are many finds including 2 Moai. They are very impressive and mysterious. Why the people built them and by what means? This is a question which the scientists hold out long and which every year attracts tourists, scholars, adventurers from all over the world, fascinated by the mystery of Rapa Nui.Another unsolved mystery is the lack of trees on the island.
Before the island was inhabited was a forest of palm trees.
There are two assumptions about the disappearance of vegetation: the first is that the people cut down all the trees for use as fuel or for the transport of Moai.
The second is that the Polynesian rats , which feed on seeds of palm, caused the extinction of the palm in island.I hope to go one day on the island to see these wonders in person and live their misteries.
