Public Transport

TRANSPORT

In my city, Palermo, there are plenty of means of transport like buses, trains
and bikes, which are fundamental for a lot of students and people who need
to reach their work places or their schools.

BUS

The bus is the easiest way to move around the city, because there are many
routes, so you have different opportunities to reach the city centre.
The only problem about buses is that if there’s too much traffic you could
take more time to get to your destination.

BIKE

Another way to travel around the city is hiring bikes, in fact in the city there
are some renting points where you can get a bike for a few hours, without
spending too much money. This choice can be very useful to move through
the traffic jam in the rush hour.

TAXI

Last but not least, if you are in a hurry and you have to reach a far location,
you can get and pay a taxi to solve the problem. This might be more expensive
than a bus, but you can catch a taxi even during the night time.

Conclusion

On balance, in Palermo, even though there is a big variety of means of
transport , sometimes they might be inefficient and not so reliable, in fact
they often are late and this could be a problem for students and employees
who have to be on time for they lessons and jobs. In my opinion the public
transport should be improved, adding more routes, which have to be
punctual.

  1. Public transport is a fundamental topic for every modern town. A well-functioning city must have an efficient transportation system that let citizen achieve the real freedom of movements. The reasons for this are clearly various... First of all, it lowers traffic and makes our streets more enjoyable. Then we have to consider that less private car means less air and acoustic pollution!
Unfortunately, I agree with the conclusion of this text, because Palermo's public transports aren't always reliable; sometimes they're late or some routes are often called off. In the next years, I think we have to put more efforts and funds to fix these problems. That's the only way to turn Palermo in an easy-liveable and modern city.

  2. I think that this article about public transport in Palermo written by Enrico Costa isn't true when he talks about bikes.
In my opinion hiring bikes isn't a good way to travel around the city because, unless you're in the city center, is very hard to ride bike in the streets of Palermo. Moreover I think that you're very luky if you find rental bikes, because often these are stolen and those that remain are removed, to avoid other thefts.
On the other hand I think that this article is very complete and says everything about public transport in Palermo.

  3. Public transport in Palermo is definitely a bad point for our city. It's true that there are many ways to get around Palermo like bike, bus, train or taxi, but the quality of service is questionable. The renting points where you can get a bike are almost gone for the rudeness of people. Buses offer a very bad service: they are decadent, always crowded and never in time. This is because not enough importance is given to public transport and so nobody pays the ticket. This takes people to use their cars more than necessary increasig accidents and pollution. I agree with the conclusion of Enrico in his article.

  4. I agree with enrico beacuse the public transport in palermo are very inadequate and unreliable. The main reason is that the people don't pay the ticket, so the agency can't offer a good service. So I think in palermo the public transport don't functions for 2 reason: because the people every time try to cheat; and beacause the employees aren't professional (always they are late). So this is a huge problem for example for the children who get late to school and haven't other way to get to school

  6. In my opinion, the topic covered in this post is very important, especially for today’s cities.
The populations of every city need a good transport system to go from one side to the other, also because not all people have a means of transport.
In our city, Palermo, one of the worst services is the bus: firstly because it is always very crowded, in fact because of this many people take advantage of it not pay for the ticket; then the buses themselves are always late.
Finally I conclude by teaching that I, too, like many people, agree that we should optimize the transfers in Palermo, also because the situation could worsen.

  7. In my opinion, the public transport Is very important. In a big city like Palermo you can't move without a means of transport. The things written in the text are true, in fact there are people who arrive late for school or other meeting because often these public transport. I think that in 2020 the situation should change because for many people this Is the only way to move. Probably the best means of transport is bike, in fact It doesn't pollutes. The bike has a default, It Is slower than other means of transport.

  9. During my Easter holidays I have read an article who speaks about the public transport in Palermo.
I don’t live in Palermo but in a small town near this city. In my town there is no public transport and if I go to school I should take a private coach from my town to Palermo and the travel takes me only 30 minutes.
But when I’m in the city I take the bus and it is good but sometimes there’s too much traffic and the buses are late and you too.
Another public transport which is very good is the tram, that I love it, although I don’t know why
I think it doesn’t take too long to move around the city because it runs on its own rails. But in Palermo there are only 4 tram routes and it isn’t good for the people.
I don’t think the bike and the taxi are good transport because I like walking and sightseeing my city while I move to the station or school….
So in Palermo there are different means of transport for everyone and all the people can move around the city.

  10. Composed by cars, busses, bikes, taxis and more, the public transportation is for sure one of the most important fundamentals of every evoluted city. Having a good working public transportation helps to preserve the environment, because of the less use of personal transportations, and it helps also students and employees to get to their duties easier. Unfortunately I agree with the text, because all these benefits are absent really often in Palermo. Indeed most of the times public transportations, especially busses, are not on time. In the coming years I hope we'll take care about these problems, solving them all hopefully. Especially if we would like to have an organized and better city.

  12. I read this article and I'm partially agree with Enrico. He wrote right thing about the way of transport in Palermo, but he forgot to add something. For example he said rightly that in Palermo there are many renting points where people can get a bike, but he didn't specify that in Palermo there are very few cycle paths so is very dangerous riding bike through the traffic.
About the buses I think they are always late because of the traffic. It doesn't depend on the bus drivers but on the people. If people didn't buy more of one vehicle for family there would be less traffic and buses would be always on time. Moreover there would be less pollution and more advantages for our environment. In my opinion this would be the best solution to avoid the traffic, especially now that another way of transport has been added in Palermo, the tram.

  13. I agree with the one written by Enrico Costa which describes well the means by which you can move around the center of Palermo, but Enrico did not talk about an important thing that concerns me or the means to reach Palermo from other neighboring countries and on the contrary. In this case, the means are missing a lot and are often late.  Despite this, for the rest of Palermo there are numerous transports to move from one part of the city to another.

  14. This topic is really interesting, because I often take public transportation and is true that they are often late and because of that they are full of people. And hiring a bike is not a bad idea, but to ride in the streets of Palermo is hard. The taxi is comfortable and quicker, but they are often expensive for small.
So I agree that the public transportation of Palermo needs to be improved

  16. In my opinion public transport in Palermo is very useful and cheap. The only problem is the bus delays, in fact these delays not only harm students and workers but also damage tourism. I happened to talk to very sad tourists because the bus was late and they couldn’t participate in a tour guide. I think that the fastest, punctual and cheapest means of transport in Palermo is the tram.
